Visit to Maihaugen open air museum. 28th September
Maihaugen – proud timber houses and modern dwelling houses in beautiful surroundings. A very special museum, a national cultural treasure, much written about and admired by all. Houses with history in the walls. A history of scarce material resources, but also cultural riches. The story of men and women who laid the foundations for the Norwegian welfare state.
For 125 years Maihaugen has been in constant change and development. Maihaugen is a gateway to history, but at the same time an open door for contemporary culture. There are 200 historical buildings in the open air museum, the oldest among them a stave church from around year 1200. A Residential area presents homes from every decade of the 20th century
